With the holidays approaching, now is a great time to set yourself up for success and get your seasonal decor in order. Organizing and decluttering storage items simplifies the decorating process and give you more time for get togethers and moments of joy this season. Here’s our tips and recommends for a spectacular holiday organization space.
As you look through seasonal items, take the time to sort and declutter. Make sure any random items in a box are put away with like items (i.e. that forgotten Halloween bat that was stashed in the Christmas box). If there is anything you’re no longer using or is broken, decide if things should be donated or tossed – no need to store items you don’t use. We naturally upgrade and replace items over time. It’s ok to let go of items and pass them along to someone else who could use them.
Large, stackable bins are the easiest way organize and stow away seasonal items. We recommend storage that is 1) clear 2) able to be sealed tight and 3) labeled. Having clear storage containers allows for you to see what is in the box itself, as well as see what space you may have to add additional similar items. Containers with lids is key – if your decorations are in storage, in the garage, or maybe a closet – we want to make sure those items are kept safe, protected from dust and damage. We would hate to have a family stocking damaged by a unwelcomed visitor or the elements.
The key to solidifying any organization system: LABELS! With multiple holiday specific items in a space, labels remind everyone where they can find items and where to put them back! Especially if you have helpers to bring things out to help decorate.
